"Bridge(s)" in Top 10 music
As a follow-up to an earlier post I did on walls in American pop music, the music video essay takes a look at songs from the Billboard year-end Top 10 charts (1951-2015) that include the word bridge(s). Although the word only appears in 6 of the 650 songs in the corpus, it appears to have four functions in these songs: 1) in the names of two bridges that are explicitly named in songs #1 and #3 below; 2) figuratively, in songs #2 and #6; 3) generically, in the phrase "under the bridge downtown" in song #4; and 4) figuratively, as well, in reference to a musical passage in song #5. As a token, bridge(s) is used 19 times in the 6 songs.
And, as a bonus, one from the Bridgemaster himself, in seasonal attire to boot:
And why not another?
